Kannada IPTV channels — watch live Kannada TV, Sandalwood movies, news and devotional channels in the USA, UK and Canada
Forty-four Kannada channels on RisePrime TV, grouped the way Karnataka's television market is actually built rather than dropped into one long alphabetical list. Kannada is the smallest of the four major South Indian television markets by channel count and the most competitive by newsroom count — fourteen Kannada news channels serve a single state. Around them sit four general entertainment flagships, a Sandalwood movie and music tier, the devotional channels that follow Karnataka's temple calendar, and a kids and factual tier that did not exist in Kannada at all a decade ago. Each of the five tabs below covers one of those tiers. Every channel streams live to Firestick, Smart TV, Android, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and any browser.
Kannada entertainment channels
Kannada general entertainment is fought out between four flagship channels — Colors Kannada, Zee Kannada, Star Suvarna and Sun Udaya — and it is unusually evenly matched. No single Kannada channel holds the position Sun TV holds in Tamil or Asianet holds in Malayalam, which is why a Kannada package that carries only two or three of the four leaves a household short of whichever serial they follow. Behind the flagships sit the second channels each network runs, and DD Chandana, the state broadcaster, which is where Karnataka's own institutions, folk forms and Rajyotsava coverage still live.
Flagship Kannada general entertainment
On air since 2000, originally as ETV Kannada, and renamed Colors Kannada in 2015. The reality-format channel of the four — the Kannada edition of Bigg Boss anchors its weekend schedule — alongside a full weeknight serial block. Its HD feed launched in May 2016, the first in the language. Now part of JioStar.
Zee Entertainment's Kannada flagship, launched in 2006 and the newest of the four to enter the market. Built on daily fiction and long-running family serials, with talent and dance formats at the weekend. Its HD feed has run since November 2018.
Launched in 2007 as Suvarna and renamed Star Suvarna in July 2016. Run out of Asianet Star Communications, the group that also runs the Malayalam market, which shows in a schedule that leans harder on non-fiction and event programming than its rivals. Its HD feed carries Dolby Digital Plus audio.
The first Kannada satellite channel, on air since 1 June 1994 and for years the dominant one — by 2000 it was taking around 70% of television advertising in Karnataka. Sun TV Network renamed it from Udaya TV to Sun Udaya in 2026, bringing it into line with the group's other language flagships. Same feed, same schedule, new name on screen.
Second channels and the state broadcaster
Launched in July 2016 as Viacom18's second Kannada channel and now part of JioStar. A lighter slate than Colors Kannada — comedy, dubbed drama and repeats of the flagship's proven serials, pitched at households that want the network's catalogue without the prime-time appointment.
Zee's second Kannada channel, which took over the slot Zee Picchar had held on 23 August 2025. Recent enough that most published Kannada channel lists still show the old name in its place — worth checking if you are comparing packages against a list written before late 2025.
Doordarshan's Kannada service, on air since October 1994 and the official channel of the Government of Karnataka. Free-to-air, and the only channel in the language still committed to Yakshagana, folk performance, classical music and full Rajyotsava and state-event coverage — the material the commercial flagships dropped years ago.
Kannada no longer has a home-grown flagship — and that changes what a package has to carry
Kasthuri TV, launched in 2007, was the first Kannada family entertainment channel promoted by a Kannadiga rather than by a national network, and it closed in 2023. Every remaining Kannada general entertainment flagship now belongs to a group headquartered outside Karnataka: Sun TV Network in Chennai, Zee in Mumbai, and JioStar, which after the November 2024 Viacom18–Star merger owns Colors Kannada, Colors Super and Star Suvarna between them — three of the seven channels in this tab, under one roof.
The practical consequence for a viewer abroad is that no single network carries the whole Kannada conversation any more. The serial your family follows and the reality format they argue about are very likely on different networks, which is the case for carrying all four flagships rather than whichever two a package happens to have licensed.
If you are searching for the old name Unique to Kannada
Eight of the channels on this page are searched for under a name they no longer carry, and one of those changes happened in 2026. This is the single most common reason a Kannada viewer concludes a package "does not have" a channel it is in fact carrying — they are looking for Udaya TV in a list that says Sun Udaya. Every channel above is included.
Frequently asked questions
Can I watch Colors Kannada, Zee Kannada, Star Suvarna and Sun Udaya live outside India?
Yes. All four Kannada general entertainment flagships stream live through RisePrime TV to the USA, UK and Canada, on Firestick, Smart TV, Android, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and in any browser. Because the Kannada market is genuinely four-way rather than dominated by one channel, all four are carried rather than a selection — which is what most Kannada households abroad are checking for first.
How many Kannada channels does RisePrime TV carry?
Forty-four, across five tiers: general entertainment, news, Sandalwood movies and music, devotional and lifestyle, and a combined sport, kids and comedy tab. Live channels are backed by catch-up, so a serial that airs in the Indian evening can be watched at a workable hour in the Bay Area or in Birmingham.
Is Udaya TV still called Udaya TV?
No. Sun TV Network renamed the channel Sun Udaya in 2026. It is the same channel that has been on air since 1 June 1994 — the first Kannada satellite channel — with the same schedule and the same serials; only the on-screen branding changed. It is carried here under the new name. The same applies to Zee Picchar, which was replaced by Zee Power in August 2025, and to several Kannada news channels that were renamed between 2016 and 2017. The Entertainment tab lists all eight changes side by side.
Which Kannada news channels are included?
Fourteen, which is close to the full field. Kannada is the most crowded news market in India relative to the size of the state it serves — TV9 Kannada, Public TV, Asianet Suvarna News and News18 Kannada lead it, with TV5 Kannada, Power TV, Republic Kannada, BTV News, Vistara News, News First, Zee Kannada News, Raj News Kannada, Kasthuri News 24 and Prajaa TV behind them. See the News tab for how a Kannada bulletin divides its coverage across the six regions of Karnataka.
Are Sandalwood movies included?
Yes. Four dedicated Kannada movie channels are carried — Udaya Movies, Colors Kannada Cinema, Star Suvarna Plus and Public Movies — which between them run world television premieres, the post-2018 pan-India Kannada releases and a deep back catalogue reaching to the Rajkumar era. Three Kannada music channels sit alongside them. See the Movies & Music tab.
Are Kannada channels available in HD?
The four general entertainment flagships all broadcast dedicated HD feeds — Colors Kannada since 2016, Sun Udaya and Star Suvarna since 2017, Zee Kannada since 2018 — so the channels a household watches most do look good on a large television. It is not universal across the language: much of the news tier and a large part of the devotional tier is produced in standard definition only. That is a cost decision by those broadcasters, not a platform limitation — where a broadcaster does not make an HD feed, no service can create one.
Can I watch Kannada channels on Firestick, Smart TV or my phone?
Yes — every channel on this page streams to Firestick, Smart TV, Android, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and any browser, so a household can have a serial on in the living room, cricket in another room and a Kannada children's channel on a tablet without a second subscription.
Is there cricket with Kannada commentary?
Yes. Star Sports 1 Kannada launched in December 2018 as the first sports channel in the language, and a second Kannada feed was added in March 2025. Between them they carry Kannada-language commentary on the fixtures a Karnataka audience follows, including the IPL and the Bengaluru franchises across football and kabaddi. See the Sports, Kids & Comedy tab. Broadcast rights to specific tournaments are re-tendered every few years and move between networks, so the current programme guide is always the reliable source for a given fixture.
Who actually owns Kannada television
Almost every channel in the tabs above belongs to one of seven groups, and only two of them are based in Karnataka.

The Kannada diaspora tracks the technology industry more closely than almost any other Indian language group, because Bengaluru is where it left from. That puts the largest concentrations in a short list of tech corridors rather than spread evenly across the three countries — which is why this package is built around live delivery at those specific time offsets.
Kannada news channels
Karnataka supports fourteen Kannada news channels for a single state, which is the densest news market in Indian television relative to the audience it serves. Tamil Nadu and Kerala have larger populations and fewer newsrooms. The result is a genre where four established channels carry most of the audience and ten more compete hard beneath them, and where a story is covered from several directions within the same hour. For a household abroad, that density is the point: Karnataka news reaches you faster and from more angles in Kannada than it does in any national-language bulletin.
The four leading newsrooms
The first 24-hour news channel in Kannada, on air since 2006, and still the reference point for the genre. Heavy on political coverage and studio debate, with the widest reporting network across the state.
Launched in 2012 by Writemen Media and run out of Bengaluru — one of the few Kannada channels owned in Karnataka rather than by a national network. Built on public-interest reporting, civic issues and ground coverage from outside the capital.
On air since 2008 and known as Suvarna News 24x7 until January 2016, when it moved onto the Asianet News Network name. A broader bulletin than most of the field — business, entertainment and sport carried alongside the political day.
The Network18 newsroom in Kannada, carried under the ETV News Kannada name until September 2017. Backed by a national reporting network, which shows in its coverage of Delhi politics and of Karnataka's place in it.
The rest of the Kannada news field
The Kannada channel of the TV5 group, run by Rana Broadcasting. Rolling bulletins with a strong regional desk and long-form political interviews.
A 2018 entrant from Powersmart Media that established itself quickly on investigation-led reporting and a combative debate format.
Launched in 2017 as Digvijaya News 24x7 under VRL Media and now part of the Republic Media Network. Strong in north Karnataka, where VRL's newspaper operation is based.
On air since 2014, with a district-level bulletin cycle that gives more airtime to taluk and municipal news than the larger newsrooms have room for.
The newest full newsroom in the language, launched in November 2022 by Vistara Media, and built for a digital-first audience — shorter bulletins, heavier explainer output.
Launched in 2020 by Olecom Media. A conventional bulletin schedule with a Bengaluru civic focus — traffic, infrastructure, the city's own politics.
Zee Media's Kannada newsroom, which went on air as a television channel on 10 April 2023 after running as a digital operation. The most recent addition to the Kannada news field.
Raj Television Network's Kannada newsroom, the group's second Kannada channel after Raj Musix. A straight bulletin service without a heavy debate slate.
On air since 2011 from Kasthuri Medias, and the surviving half of that group's Kannada operation — its sister entertainment channel Kasthuri TV closed in 2023.
A 2015 launch from Samparka Infomedia, running a bulletin service weighted towards rural Karnataka, agriculture and social affairs.
The six regions a Kannada bulletin cycles through
A Kannada news channel is not a Bengaluru channel with a state appendix. The bulletin genuinely rotates, and which region a household listens for is usually the region it came from. That is the practical case for carrying the depth of the field rather than two or three headline names — a story that gets four minutes on a Bengaluru-focused bulletin gets a full segment on the channel with the strongest desk in that district.
Kannada movie and music channels
Sandalwood has changed more in the last eight years than in the thirty before them. Kannada cinema went from a domestic industry that rarely travelled to one releasing simultaneously in five languages, and the movie channels changed with it — a schedule that used to run on library titles now runs on world television premieres. Four Kannada movie channels and three music channels are carried here, covering the Rajkumar-era classics, the 1990s and 2000s mass cinema, and the post-2018 pan-India releases.
Kannada movie channels
Known as Udaya Movies until March 2026. The first Kannada movie channel, launched by Sun TV Network on 25 May 2000 and originally called Ushe TV. Twenty-five years of continuous operation has given it the deepest Kannada film library on television, which is what makes it the channel for older titles rather than recent premieres.
Launched on 24 September 2018 as the first regional movie channel Viacom18 ever opened, and now part of JioStar. Runs the network's world television premieres, which in Kannada means most of the recent big-budget releases arrive here first.
On air since 2013 as Suvarna Plus and renamed in July 2016. Opened as Asianet's second Kannada general entertainment channel and now runs largely on films, which is how it is listed and how most viewers use it — Kannada features through the day with dubbed titles in the off-peak hours.
Writemen Media's third channel, launched on 12 February 2018 after Public TV and Public Music. A Bengaluru-run movie channel weighted towards mid-budget Kannada cinema of the 1990s and 2000s rather than premieres.
Kannada music channels
Known as Udaya Music until March 2026. Sun TV Network's Kannada music channel, on air since 2006 and originally called Udaya 2 — still listed as U2 on some older guides. Film songs across five decades, countdown shows and audio launches.
Raj Television Network's first Kannada channel. A straight music rotation — heavier on recent film soundtracks and independent Kannada releases than on the classic catalogue.
Launched in 2014 as Writemen Media's second channel after Public TV. Film music alongside Kannada folk, bhavageete and the sugama sangeetha tradition, which the film-led channels rarely programme.
Competition Commission of India · Kannada Grahakara Koota
The case that decided what Kannada television could show
For roughly five decades the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and the Karnataka Television Association enforced an unofficial ban on dubbing content into Kannada. It had no legal standing, and it held anyway — in nearly half a century, effectively no dubbed film or programme was released in the language. A consumer group took it to the Competition Commission, which ruled the ban anti-competitive and penalised the trade bodies. The Karnataka High Court dismissed the chamber's challenge and the Supreme Court later quashed its appeal.
What it changed in cinema
A film dubbed into Kannada reached Karnataka screens in 2017 for the first time in about forty-five years. The wider effect was reciprocal rather than one-way: the same decade in which Kannada opened to dubbed content is the decade Sandalwood began releasing its own films across five languages at once, and the movie channels above now programme both sides of that trade.
What it changed on television
Everything in the Kannada kids and factual tier dates from after the ruling. Nickelodeon opened a Kannada feed in 2018, Discovery and Discovery Kids in 2019, National Geographic and Sony Yay in 2021, Pogo in 2022 and Cartoon Network in 2023. Before that a Kannada-speaking child had no channel in their own language at all.
This is why a Kannada lineup that looks thin next to a Tamil or Telugu one on channel count can still be the right comparison to lose: eight of the forty-four channels on this page could not legally have existed in Kannada fifteen years ago. It is also why the Sports, Kids & Comedy tab is the fastest-growing tier in the language rather than an afterthought.
Kannada films you will also find on the Telugu channels
Because Kannada releases now go out in several languages at once, a title that premieres on a Kannada movie channel often appears on the Telugu and Tamil movie channels within the same window in its dubbed version. If a household watches across two South Indian languages, the practical answer is usually the wider package rather than two single-language ones — the Telugu channel lineup sets out that side.
Kannada devotional and lifestyle channels
Kannada devotional television is smaller than the Telugu or Tamil equivalents and organised differently. Rather than a dozen competing bhakti channels, Karnataka's devotional viewing runs through a handful of channels that carry the calendars of specific temples and mutts, and the audience follows the institution rather than the channel. Alongside them sit the Kannada wellness and factual channels — a tier that barely existed a decade ago and now includes Kannada feeds of the two largest documentary networks in the world.
Devotional channels
On air since 2008 from Kamadhenu Telefilms, with Kannada and Tamil feeds. Discourses, temple telecasts, devotional music and festival coverage across the year — the closest thing Kannada has to a general-purpose bhakti channel.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams channel in Kannada, launched during the 2021 Brahmotsavams when TTD split its second feed into dedicated Kannada and Hindi services. Live darshan and seva telecasts from Tirumala, the Brahmotsavam schedule and the daily ritual cycle, in Kannada rather than shared with another language.
Lifestyle, wellness and factual
Launched in 2017 by Kamadhenu Telefilms as Kannada's first wellness and lifestyle channel. Ayurveda, yoga, traditional medicine and health programming in Kannada, with a following well beyond Karnataka.
On air since 2016 from CG Parivar Global Vision and billed as the first Kannada infotainment channel. Lifestyle, culture and general-knowledge programming rather than news or drama.
The Kannada feed of Discovery, opened in 2019 — one of the first channels to arrive in the language once dubbed content became permissible. Natural history, engineering and survival programming with Kannada narration.
The Kannada feed of National Geographic, launched in 2021 and now carried under JioStar. Science, exploration and wildlife programming — the tier Kannada-speaking parents most often name as the reason for keeping a package rather than a streaming app.
The kshetras the Kannada devotional year is built around
This is the practical difference between a Kannada devotional tier and a generic bhakti package. A household abroad is rarely looking for devotional programming in the abstract — they are looking for one specific festival at one specific kshetra, on the day it happens, at a time they can actually watch it. Catch-up matters more here than on any other tab, because these events run on the Indian ritual clock rather than on a broadcast schedule.
Kannada sports, kids and comedy channels
This is the newest tier in Kannada television and the fastest-growing. Star Sports opened the first Kannada-language sports channel at the end of 2018 and added a second in 2025; every children's channel here except one arrived between 2018 and 2023. For a family abroad it is usually the deciding tab rather than the last one — it is the tier that determines whether children who are growing up outside Karnataka hear Kannada outside the house.
Sports channels with Kannada commentary
Launched on 29 December 2018 as the first sports channel in the Kannada language. Full Kannada commentary teams rather than a dubbed audio track, across cricket and the franchise leagues a Karnataka audience follows.
The second Kannada sports feed, which took over the Star Sports First slot on 15 March 2025. A second feed matters most during overlapping fixtures — an IPL match and a football or kabaddi tie on the same evening no longer compete for one Kannada channel.
Comedy
Known as Udaya Comedy until March 2026. Sun TV Network's Kannada comedy channel, on air since 2009 and originally launched as a platform exclusive. Comedy films, sketch shows and the comic sequences pulled from the Sandalwood catalogue — the channel most often left on in a room with mixed ages.
Kannada children's channels
Sun TV Network's Kannada children's channel, on air since 2009 and for nearly a decade the only one in the language. Animation, folk-tale adaptations and Kannada-language children's programming rather than a dubbed international slate.
The Kannada feed of Nickelodeon, opened in September 2018 — the first international children's network to arrive in the language after the dubbing restriction ended.
Nickelodeon's second Kannada feed, pitched at older children with an action and adventure slate rather than the pre-school and comedy programming of the main channel.
Launched in Kannada in 2019. Sits between entertainment and education — the animated series it is known for alongside the factual programming its parent network is built on.
The Kannada feed of Sony's children's channel, opened in 2021. A comedy-led animation slate aimed at the youngest end of the age range.
Warner Bros. Discovery's younger-skewing children's channel in Kannada, launched in 2022. The long-running Indian animated franchises that dominate the pre-teen audience.
The most recent Kannada children's feed, opened in 2023 — five years after the first, which is how quickly this tier has been built out. The international animation catalogue with Kannada audio.
Why a Kannada commentary feed exists at all
Kannada-language sport is not a translation of a national feed — it exists because four Karnataka sides between them fill most of the calendar and draw an audience that would rather hear the game called in Kannada. The season bars above are indicative windows, not fixture lists. Broadcast rights to specific tournaments are re-tendered every few years and move between networks, so the current programme guide is the reliable source for any given match. If you follow more than one Indian sport across languages, the Indian channels hub sets out which commentary languages each competition is carried in.
